Yesterday afternoon/evening (I hate that 3:35 start time. Seriously, what is it? A day game or a night game?) was an ugly, ugly, ugly game. The Giants let a couple calls that went against them rattle them and they seemed to totally lose their concentration.
Look, the strike zone wasn't perfect and Marvin Hudson had a less then stellar afternoon/evening (again, what do you call this game?) but the Giants really shouldn't have lost their cool and let a winnable game slip away.

There were some outside pitches that were off the plate that were called strikes but for the most part, it was a pretty typical strike zone. I encourage you to go look at the previous plots of strike zones and you will see similar patterns with other umpires giving that wide, outside strike.
Before I wrap this up, I wanted to give special attention to the Buster Posey calls that seemed to really get everyone riled up and was the beginning of the end for the Giants.
Again, these were borderline pitches, but not absolutely blown calls. The Giants needed to be more mentally tough in this game and not let these things take them out of their game. That is probably the hardest thing to do when it seems that every break is going against you, but Bruce Bochy needs to get his troops focused and they need to forget about yesterday to salvage anything on this opening road trip.
