Pablo Sandoval's Weight Loss Update

The Giants pudgy third baseman was given an ultimatum this offseason, lose weight or we send you to the farm. So far it seems that Pablo Sandoval has gotten the message.

Andrew Baggarly of the Bay Area News Group reported that Sandoval has lost 10 pounds since the end of the World Series. That is encouraging news as Sandoval has the raw talent to be a good or even a great player but the weight and personal issues last season weighed down (no pun intended) his performance.

Another update is that Pablo is not working out in San Deigo like originally planned but is instead training in Tempe, AZ with Triple Threat Performance home to former Giants strength coach Greg "Sweets" Oliver. They have had numerous baseball clients and many former Giants work out there.

Being in Arizona has made the Giants more comfortable even if he isn't under constant watch or in constant contact with the Giants trainers in nearby Scottsdale.

This could be a reason that they were more comfortable letting newly acquired Miguel Tejada be the full time short stop instead of third baseman. I know that I am more comfortable with a slim Sandoval at third then what we saw last season.

I think that Pablo still has special talent and that if he comes into camp without the extra weight and maybe some more muscle and better fitness it is possible that he can regain the Kung Fu form and make people want to put back on those panda hats.
