The headline when the Giants signed Aubrey Huff last season was "Sabean Signs Aging Veteran Coming Off Worst Year of Career" and many in the fan base myself included didn't really care for it much. To our surprise Huff had quite a bit left in the tank and some magic underwear.
Year | G | PA | AB | R | H | 2B | 3B | HR | RBI | SB | BB | SO | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
2010 | 157 | 668 | 569 | 100 | 165 | 35 | 5 | 26 | 86 | 7 | 83 | 91 | .290 | .385 | .506 | .891 | 138 |
Huff had some troubles adjusting to AT&T park like most lefties but eventually found his stride and was the biggest and most consistent threat in the Giants lineup. The other thing that just astounds me is how willing he was to take a walk.
Look at the OBP it is nearly 100 points higher then the batting average. He walked nearly as often as he struck out which is something that Giants haven't had since Barry Bonds was sent into exile.
Huff was the biggest free agent bargain in the majors last season and even the new contract isn't a reach in overpaying Huff. Hopefully the magic wasn't just a one time thing and keeps on going.
