End of Season Review: Freddy Sanchez

To be perfectly honest since the beginning I have not been Freddy Sanchez's biggest fan.

I thought the cost to acquire him was too high (in hindsight it looks like the Giants got the better end of the deal). I thought the extension he signed was misguided after he was injured at the end of his first stint with the Giants. I went into a tizzy after it was announced that he wouldn't be back with the team until mid May.

So long story short, Freddy Sanchez played an important role in bringing the Giants a World Series trophy and for that all the other stuff matters a whole lot less.

Year G PA AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI SB BB SO BA OBP SLG OPS OPS+
2010 111 479 431 55 126 22 1 7 47 3 32 68 .292 .342 .397 .739 98
If there was one memory that will stay with me forever of Sanchez it is the at bat against Craig Kimbrel in the top of the 9th of the NLDS game 3. He looked so over matched and then with all of the fidgeting and skwirming that he always does came calm and a ball hit right up the middle that put the tying run in scoring position for Aubrey Huff to drive in.

If he doesn't get that 2 out, 2 strike hit it is likely the Giants don't advance past the Braves. So for all the things that made me not like Freddy Sanchez one hit, some solid defense and awesome mole make him a hero in my heart.

That is what we got from Sanchez and it all that could be asked for, good at bats, flashes of amazing bat control that remind you that he won a batting title and solid defense.

If your on Twitter you should definitely follow the The Crazy Crabbers. If you're not you should really consider joining, lots of good stuff going on there.
