Jonathan Sanchez is a type of pitcher that drives you crazy as a fan. He has the ability to be unhittable with filthy stuff that is just not fair but sometimes he just beats himself by not being in control of himself.

This season saw a lot more of the "Filthy Sanchez" and a lot less of the "Close your eyes Sanchez" which is a huge step forward for the very obviously talented lefty.

Year W L W-L% ERA G GS CG SHO IP H R ER HR BB SO ERA+ WHIP H/9 HR/9 BB/9 SO/9 SO/BB
2010 13 9 .591 3.07 34 33 0 0 193.1 142 74 66 21 96 205 133 1.231 6.6 1.0 4.5 9.5 2.14
Of his 33 starts Sanchez made it to at least the 5th inning in 87% of them which is a big improvement from last season where he could only do it 75% of the time and even better then his 2008 where he only got to the 5th inning 69% of the time.

With the increased consistency Sanchez has increased his innings pitched every season while dropping his WHIP and having his ERA+ increase every season.

This season Sanchez took huge steps forward showing that he can be a big game pitcher and someone that you can feel comfortable giving the ball to every fifth day. He pitched some clutch games in big spots for the Giants. He gave 5 strong scoreless innings in the season finale against the Padres and pitched a masterpiece in Atlanta in game 3 of NDLS.

Jonathan Sanchez still has his moments that he beats himself but it is happening less and less. I look forward to his continued growth next season.
