ESPN just finished up ranking the top 500 players in Major League Baseball. Here is a look at how the Giants and the rest of the NL West fared.
The Giants had 14 players in the top 500 which ranked last in the NL West but of the top 10 players had the highest average ranking of their top 10 players. In addition they had the most player in the top 50 and top 100.
The Giants top players according to ESPN went: Tim Lincecum, Matt Cain, Buster Posey, Brian Wilson, Pablo Sandoval, Madison Bumgarner, Sergio Romo, Ryan Vogelsong, Melky Cabrera, Brandon Belt, Angel Pagan, Freddy Sanchez, Aubrey Huff and Nate Schierholtz.
I was surprised by how high Wilson was ranked but I think that most people will rank closers higher than I would. On the flip side I was surprised that Romo was considered the 7th best player on the team, I would have thought that he would be lower. Belt has the potential to be much higher on this list but that really depends on if he will get playing time this season. Overall not too bad of a job by ESPN.
