The Revenge of Ryan Vogelsong

Ryan Vogelsong was one of the pieces that the Giants gave up in one of the greatest trades of Brian Sabean's tenure. The Giants traded him, along with Armando Rios, for pitcher Jason Schmidt and outfielder John Vander Wal. Vander Wal gave the Giants a half win of value, while Schmidt became the ace of the staff.

Vogelsong was a pretty good prospect and was ranked as the fifth best in the Giants system at the time and never really broke through the replacement level.

In his five seasons (he lost one to injury), he never produced at a positive WAR and totaled -4.1 WAR in his stint in the Steel City.

Now, just to rub salt in the wounds of the long suffering Pirates fans, he's having a nice spring with the Giants. He's 1-1 with a 1.04 ERA with 9 strikeouts in 8 and two-thirds innings.

This must be the Pirate version of the Joe Nathan/Francisco Liriano/Boof Bonser trade for A.J. Pierzynski and if Vogelsong turns into anything positive, even if it's just middle relief depth that is stashed in Fresno, it must kill the Pirates.
